THE famous gay beach of Gran Canaria

If you've never been to Gran Canaria but are planning a trip there, you've certainly heard of it. We're talking about the island's most famous gay beach, located in the south of Maspalomas behind the dunes. Long-time Canary Islands fans still know this beach section as "Number Seven" - due to a restructuring of the kiosks, the beach section can now be found under "Number Five". Both the gay beach and the neighboring area are designated as nudist sections - but as always: optional, not mandatory.

You'll know you're in the right place when you see the rainbow flags at the kiosk and the "LOVE" sign on the beach, which also makes for a great photo opportunity.

No one needs to go hungry or thirsty here, because like every beach section, "Kiosk No. 5" offers drinks and snacks. Speaking of drinks: be sure to try the Sangria Special! During opening hours, the kiosk also provides music - and is a meeting point for people from all over the world.

How do you get there?

  • Through the dunes:
Your starting point to the gay beach is the Riu Palace Maspalomas on Avenida de Tirajana. From there, follow the marked path approximately 1.5 kilometers through the dunes, which takes around 30 minutes. You'll come out directly at Kiosk No. 5 on the beach. Stay on the paths, the dunes are a nature reserve (see below!)

Walking barefoot through the dunes is not recommended, as you can very easily and quickly burn the soles of your feet due to the hot sand.
  • From the lighthouse: Take a taxi or bus to Faro de Maspalomas and from there walk along the sea towards Playa del Inglés. Duration approximately 15 minutes.
  • More on this: In the article about the dunes of Maspalomas you'll find the route described.

Loungers and umbrellas: arrive early

The most important tip we can share: During major events like the Prides or Fetish Week, the gay beach can and will get very crowded and you quickly won't get a lounger or sun umbrella anymore. Therefore, it's advisable to be at the beach really early in the morning, around 9 am, to secure a spot.

Or if you have good friends and acquaintances and know they're going there relatively early: Ask them to reserve a lounger and umbrella for you at the same time. This saves you from getting up early and you still have your spot. Alternatively, you can of course also make yourself comfortable on the sand with a beach towel.

The prices for two loungers and one sun umbrella are currently (as of October 2026) 7.50 euros. Note: Only card payment is possible.

Atmosphere and crowd

During the day, the beach is a lively meeting point. Guests come from all countries, the atmosphere is relaxed, open and sociable, and it's easy to strike up a conversation.

Practical tips

  • Sun protection: Bring sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water - from our own painful experience, you can get severely sunburned.
  • Valuables: Only bring the essentials and don't leave anything unattended, thieves are active here too.
  • Photos: Don't photograph anyone without permission, especially at the nudist beach.
  • Waves: Watch out for waves and currents, lifeguards aren't everywhere.
  • After the beach: Continue to the beach pharmacy at the lighthouse.

Our tip

Start early at the Riu Palace, walk through the dunes, secure a sun lounger and treat yourself to the Sangria Special at lunchtime. If you can't manage to get up early, ask friends to reserve a spot for you.
