Lomo Quiebre / Puerto de Mogán
Whitewashed houses, bougainvillea, and small bridges over canals: Puerto de Mogán is one of the most beautiful places on the island. Lomo Quiebre is the name of the residential area where many accommodations are located.

Picturesque village in southwest Gran Canaria
Puerto de Mogán is located at the foot of a valley on the southwest coast, around 80 kilometers from Las Palmas. The village was originally a small fishing settlement and was transformed into a marina with canals in the 1980s. Today it combines a fishing harbor, yacht marina, and holiday resort. Because of the canals, it's called the "Little Venice of the Canaries." Buildings are rarely allowed to be higher than two stories, which is why everything feels low-rise and manageable. Our impression: This is one of the most beautiful places on the island.
What is Lomo Quiebre?
"Lomo Quiebre" is the name of the area around Puerto de Mogán. It frequently appears as a location on booking portals. Many hotels and apartments are located in this area. Some are directly at the marina, others a bit further up in the valley. When booking, check the distance to the beach and harbor, as the return journey goes uphill.
Getting there and parking
For parking, we recommend "Parking Mogan TNA." From there you walk to the harbor, crossing the canal that flows into the sea along the way. This brings you directly into the most beautiful part of the village without a detour. Parking spaces directly at the harbor are limited, especially on market day.
Other options:
- By bus: Global lines 1 and 32 run from Maspalomas to Puerto de Mogán. Line 1 also connects Las Palmas with the harbor. You'll find current times at Global.
- By taxi: From Maspalomas or Playa del Inglés, the journey takes around 20 minutes and costs approximately €45 to €60.
What you'll experience in Puerto de Mogán
- Harbor and canals: Stroll along the flat, paved paths between the marina, cafés, and restaurants. Early morning is the quietest and best for photos. The paths are level and step-free, easily manageable with a stroller or limited mobility. In the harbor basin you can also watch many fish in the water, a nice pastime for children too.
- Playa de Mogán: The beach is located directly at the harbor. It's about 200 meters long, has light sand and very calm, shallow water that's protected by the harbor walls. This makes it one of the best beaches for families with children. It's significantly smaller than Maspalomas and gets crowded during high season.
- Friday market: Every Friday there's a large weekly market, according to the municipality from 8 am to 2 pm at the marina. You'll find handicrafts, fruit, vegetables, clothing, and souvenirs. The offerings are heavily geared toward tourists. Plan enough time, as three hours is rather tight for both market and harbor.
- Mirador de Mogán: Above the village is a viewpoint with sweeping views over rooftops, harbor, and valley.
Punta del Castillete lighthouse: A walk leads to the outer harbor. - Cañada de los Gatos: An archaeological site on the western slope for anyone who has a bit more time.
On the water: Sailing excursions, diving trips, and glass-bottom boat tours depart from the harbor. Excursion boats also run along the coast between Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán.
Food and drink
At the harbor you'll find many terrace restaurants with views of yachts and fishing boats, plus fish restaurants, tapas, and Canarian classics like papas arrugadas with mojo. Directly on the water you'll usually pay more than in the side streets.
Safety: Watch out for pickpockets
In the narrow alleys, signs warn of pickpocketing. This applies especially on market days and in busy areas. Carry valuables on your body, ideally in a closed bag at the front, and don't leave anything openly visible. No valuables should be visible in your parked car either.
Who is Puerto de Mogán right for?
For those seeking peace and quiet, couples, photographers, fish lovers, and families with small children. The village is less suitable if you're looking for nightlife, a wide beach, or easy access to the island's interior. The hotels and apartments are quiet, and the selection is smaller than in Playa del Inglés.
Our tip
Come early in the morning before the day-trippers arrive and have breakfast by the water. Then head to the beach or market, and in the late afternoon visit the Mirador and watch the sunset at the harbor. With a bit more time, a detour to Puerto Rico or Playa de Tauro is worthwhile.
