About Me

Hi, I'm Tom

here's a little "About me" or Why Gran Canaria is our second home

Since 2018, my better half and I have been drawn to Gran Canaria again and again. By now, we've been to the island together over twelve times - and there's no end in sight. What exactly keeps us here? That's hard to put into words. It's that very special magic of the Canary Islands. While on other holidays you eventually look forward to your own four walls again, on Gran Canaria wanderlust sets in for us before we even reach the airport for our return flight.

The feeling of coming home

The best ritual of every trip begins for us on the plane: The moment when we get off, pick up the rental car and drive towards Maspalomas. From that second on, it simply feels like coming home.

Gran Canaria is far more than just sun and palm trees for us. It's the familiar faces and the many lovely acquaintances we've made over the years and see again each time. It's the refreshing swim in the Atlantic. And it's the rugged nature, like at Mirador del Balcón - for me personally one of the most powerful and beautiful places on the entire island

Why this guide exists: More than just pool and beach

For many, holiday simply means hotel, pool and beach. That's a shame, because an island like Gran Canaria has so much more to offer when you leave the tourist paths.

That's exactly why I created this site. I want to show you the real, unvarnished sides of the island: places, hidden beaches, breathtaking hikes, cosy cafés and bars that we've all discovered and fallen in love with ourselves. This guide is also particularly close to my heart as a starting point for the LGBT community: If you're here for the first time, this site shows you exactly where you can feel welcome and at home.

My motto: "Someday is someday too late"

That applies to every dream and every trip you've had in mind for a long time. Don't put it off. Book the flight now rather than tomorrow, because life doesn't wait.
